The MumoStance project presentation at the International Congress of Phonetic Sciences (ICPhS) 2023 in Prague

The results of the project have been presented at the ICPhS 2023 in Prague and published with Open Access at: https://www.icphs2023.org/programme/proceedings/ – direct link to the paper: https://guarant.cz/icphs2023/1033.pdf 

We inspected prosodic features of specific
chunks of the recordings marked as speakers’
“high” or “low” affective engagement areas. Our results show that despite progressing internationalisation, certain differences in the paralinguistic prosody of German and Polish speeches remain significant.

Multimodal stancetaking – the (a) typical case of taking a stance? – a special session at the 18th International Pragmatics Conference

A special session entitled „Multimodal stancetaking – the (a) typical case of taking a stance?” took place during the 18th International Pragmatics Conference in Brussels (9 – 14 July 2023). The session was convened and chaired by Prof. Cornelia Müller.

Presentation @ICPHS and publication about the prosody of high and low affective engagement in Polish and German parliamentary speeches

The MumoStance project work titled: „The prosody of high and low affective engagement in Polish and German parliamentary speeches” will be presented at the International Congress of Phonetic Sciences (ICPhS) 2023, Prague, August 7-11, 2023. The full paper will be published in the ICPHS proceedings.

Gestural and prosodic characteristics of Polish parliamentary speeches – results of the MumoStance project presented at the 30th conference of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics

The results of the MumoStance project for the gestural and prosodic characteristics of Polish parliamentary speeches were presented at the 30th conference of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics PTLS (14-15 April 2023, Poznan, Poland). The speech entitled „Gestykulacyjno-prozodyczna charakterystyka polskich wystąpień parlamentarnych” (Eng.: Gestural-prosodic characteristics of Polish parliamentary speeches) was delivered by: Ewa Jarmołowicz-Nowikow, Maciej Karpiński and Katarzyna Klessa.

Development of speech segmentation tools for desktop using MumoStance data

MumoStance project data have been used as a testing material for a case study in the process of development of automatic segmentation plug-in based on CLARIN-PL solutions for desktop uses (Annotation Pro). MumoStance paper accepted at Speech Prosody 2022 in Lisbon

The paper High-pitched prominences in the speeches of male Polish members of parliament by Maciej Karpiński, Ewa Jarmołowicz-Nowikow & Katarzyna Klessa has been accepted for presentation at: Speech Prosody Conference, in Lisbon (23-26 May 2022).

MumoStance experiences shared in the Linguist in the field monograph (2021)

Progress in the MumoStance corpus development

The project database of parialmentary speeches from Polish Sejm and German Bundestag has been launched. The specifications of annotation have been defined and are applied to both Polish and German datasets.

Weekly joint meetings of AMU & EUV Team

Along with the work within each team (AMU and EUV), we established a collaboration scheme based on systematic joint meetings of the Polish and German team using remote work techniques. Every Monday we meet and discuss our progress in a virtual room.
